5/27/2004 Turn of Media Prompt
How Can I Turn off the Prompt When Inserting Removable Media?
Question: Could not find an answer to this question so hopefully you will help. Whenever I plug some new type media into my computer, and this is usually SD or MMC cards, how do I force XP to not give me the dumb choices dialog box about what would you like to do? This is very annoying and a distinct drawback. - Carl Q. Answer: Here's how to turn off the prompt that asks you what you want to do whenever you insert a flash memory card into your reader: Click Start | My Computer. Locate your flash card reader in the list labeled Devices with Removable Storage and right click it. Select Properties. In the Properties dialog box, click the AutoPlay tab. In the drop down box, select a file type. Under Actions, click Select an action to perform. Click Take no action. Click OK. Note that you will need to do this for each file type, and if you have a multi-card reader that shows up in My Computer as several separate drives, you'll need to do it for each drive.

5/27/2004 12:09:45 PM Use Alternate Network Configuration
How to Use the Alternate Network Configuration Feature
Windows XP includes a great feature that lets you set up your computer to connect to different networks without having to manually change all your network settings each time you connect to a different network. This is great if, for example, you have a laptop computer that you use to connect to both your home and office networks. At the office, you probably have a DHCP server that assigns IP addresses, but at home, you might want to use a static IP address. Here's how to do that:
Click Start | Control Panel Select Network and Internet Connections (or Network Connections in Classic View) Right click the LAN connection you want to configure and select Properties Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties On the General tab, configure the computer to use DHCP by selecting Obtain an I P address automatically On the Alternate Configuration tab, click User configured and enter the static IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS and WINS servers you want to use on your home network

Collapsing A Registry Hive
If you have ever poked around in the Windows registry, you will soon notice that you can get lost in keys and values. Sometimes to find what you are looking for, you really have to bore down, expanding key after key. Getting back to the top of the tree view can mean a lot of clicking and scrolling.
So how can you quickly get out of this mess and get back to the top of the registry view? Well, you have a couple of options. First, you can scroll all the way up to the top or press the Page Up button on the keyboard, right click the open hive, and select the Collapse option. Conversely, you can use the Shift + Left Arrow keystrokes to collapse all the open subkeys all the way back to the open hive.

Add Copy To entry to right-click menu
To enable a Copy To Folder option in the right-click menu when right-clicking a file or folder you have to add one key to the Registry. Launch Regedit, now navigate to the Registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \AllFilesystemObjects \shellex \ContextMenuHandlers. You will notice the Send To entry there. Right-click the ContextMenuHandlers entry and select New > Key from the list. Name that key Copy To and click ok. Now double-click the default entry on the left pane and give it the value {C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}. Close the Registry editor afterwards and go back to Windows Explorer. Create "GOD Mode" Folder
To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.
I created the GOD Mode folder in "My Documents" then created a shortcut and placed the shortcut in my Quick Launch on the task bar.
